π From a link
Paste a recipe page address or a Google Docs link. Most recipe sites publish structured recipe data, so this is usually exact. Google Docs need sharing set to “Anyone with the link”, or use the Save to Recipe Box bookmark while viewing the Doc.
Site won't import? Use the one-click bookmark
Drag this button to your bookmarks bar. When you're on any recipe page, click it and the recipe opens here, ready to save. It works on sites that block imports.
π Save to Recipe Boxπ· Scan or upload
Photos (JPEG/PNG) or PDFs. Text is read on this device with OCR β you'll review it before saving. Select several files to import a batch.
π Paste text
Copy a recipe from anywhere (email, notes, a site that blocks import) and paste it here.

Good to know before you scan
- One recipe per page works best. If a page has two recipes on it, they come in as one. Open it with Review, remove the second recipe, and add that one separately.
- Printed and typed pages read well; handwriting doesn't. Handwritten cards will usually come in with mistakes and be marked β needs review, so plan to tidy those by hand.
- Big binders take a while. Each scanned page takes a few seconds to read, so 100 pages can take 5β10 minutes. Keep this page open and on screen until it finishes: reading pauses if you switch to another app or tab (it carries on when you come back), and pages that aren't saved yet are lost if you close it.
- Check anything marked β needs review. These recipes looked incomplete (fewer than 3 ingredients, no steps, or no title). They're still saved; find them later with the Needs review filter on the Recipes page.
- The scanned pictures aren't kept. Only the text read from each page is saved, to stay within the free storage. Keep your binder or PDF if you want the originals. You can still fix a recipe later with Edit β Scanned text β Re-read.
- Website links can't be imported in bulk. For recipes on websites, use the iPhone Share shortcut or the π bookmark button, one recipe at a time.
π Put Recipe Box on your home screen
Open this page in your browser and tap Share β Add to Home Screen. In Chrome, the Share button is in the address bar or under β―. It opens full-screen like an app. Sign in once inside it.
